In 2022, Rajamangala University of Technology Phra Nakhon, led by Dr. Nittinan Sirisuwannawat, a faculty member of the Faculty of Arts, and the head of the project “University to Tambon (U2T) for BCG,” initiated a project aimed at developing healthy mushroom products named “Bang O Vital Mushrooms” (Activity 1). The project was implemented in the Bang Ao community, Bang Phlat district, Bangkok. Representatives from the project team, Mr. Puripunyavid Thanonnathechaovarin and Ms. Supawan Kusoltammarat, engaged the community members in the Bang Ao and Bang Phlat areas, providing training and capacity building for 40 participants between July 21st and 24th, 2565 (2022).
This initiative was focused on practical training related to the New Economic Model or the BCG Economy, and the application of the BCG Model for tourism promotion. The project aimed to boost products that contribute to local tourism within the urban community structure of Bangkok, following the “Happy model – Eat well” framework for urban tourism. The project received an honor from Ms. Ubonwan Suwannasen, the owner of UP II Farm, who served as a lecturer and practical trainer. The training covered a range of topics, including cultivating mushrooms at home, harvesting, commercial mushroom cultivation, and hands-on production of healthy mushroom products. The ultimate goal was to establish Bang Ao Vital Mushrooms as a local product, including techniques for sales and ongoing marketing.
