RMUTP Honours Thai Arts and Culture with the Performance “Jong Priang Sri Ayothaya Thanin”

Rajamangala University of Technology Phra Nakhon (RMUTP) presented the performance “Jong Priang Sri Ayothaya Thanin” at the 23rd Higher Education Arts and Culture Festival, held under the theme “Yoyos Sipparsin Narittayapipat: Twelve Decades of Rajabhat Ayutthaya.” The event brought together over 112 universities from across the country and featured cultural performances from Thailand’s four regions, demonstrations of traditional craftsmanship, and an art exhibition. The festival took place from January 29–31, 2025, at Phranakhon Si Ayutthaya Rajabhat University in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya province.
The opening ceremony was attended by Asst. Prof. Sattha Khaengpenkhae, Assistant to the President for Student Affairs, along with Ms. Mallika Weerasai Director of Student Development Division and members of the Performing Arts Club.
Asst. Prof. Sattha Khaengpenkhae stated, “Rajamangala University of Technology Phra Nakhon has long supported and preserved Thai arts and culture through various activities, including traditional music and dance performances, providing students with a platform for artistic expression. The performance ‘Jong Priang Sri Ayothaya Thanin’ is one of RMUTP’s student-led productions, inspired by the choreography and musical composition of the performance ‘Jong Priang’—a creative Thai dance piece originally presented by Nonthaburi College. This inspiration has been fused into ‘Jong Priang Sri Ayothaya Thanin’ to preserve and celebrate Thai cultural heritage.”
The Jong Priang tradition is historically linked to water and is documented in historical records and literary works from the Ayutthaya period. Over time, it evolved into the Loy Krathong festival, which became prominent during the Rattanakosin era.
